
Isabella Epiu
MBChB, MMed, NIH GH Fellow, PhD
is a consultant anaesthesiologist and global health researcher with over a decade of clinical, academic, and leadership experience in anaesthesia and perioperative care in Africa. She is the Chair Anaesthesia at Kabale University School of Medicine, Uganda, where she leads research, postgraduate training, and capacity-building initiatives in anaesthesia and critical care. Her research has focused on maternal health, perioperative safety, and health systems strengthening, with a strong emphasis on advancing equitable access to safe anaesthesia and surgery in resource-limited settings. As the Founder and Director of Health Solutions International, she has led and collaborated on regional and international studies on anaesthesia workforce development, publishing extensively in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Epiu is also an advocate for gender equity and mentorship in medicine, actively supporting the growth of the next generation of African anaesthesiologists and researchers. At AFSRA 2025, Dr. Isabella Epiu presents on “Regional Anaesthesia Milestones, Innovations, and the Road Ahead in Africa”, sharing insights into the transformative role of regional anaesthesia, recent innovations, and strategies to shape its future across the continent.
