
Dr. Peňafrancia Cano

is an Associate Professor of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine-Philippine General Hospital. She is the one who initiated creation of the Division of Regional Anesthesia (RA) in 2017 and later the Fellowship training in RA in 2019. She is currently the Chief of the Division of RA and the Head of the Fellowship Training Program. Dr Cano is the First Filipino to obtain the European Diploma in Regional Anesthesia (EDRA) from the ESRA in 2014 in Seville, Spain. She has been invited as a faculty in numerous Asian and International Congresse Dr Cano is a member of the ESRA International Committee representing the Philippines from 2022 to 2025. She is also a member of the RA Track Scientific Committee of the World Congress of Anesthesia (WCA) for 2026. She is a co-founder and a faculty of RA-Asia, an organization of RA experts practicing in Asia which was established in 2010. Dr Cano is the President of the Confederation of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Societies of Anesthesiologists and the Immediate Past President of the Philippine Society of Anesthesiologists (2023-2924). She is also the President of the Manila Academy of Regional Anesthesia (MARA), an organization founded by anesthesiologists who pioneered the propagation of the ultrasound guided RA in the Philippines. She is also the Founding President of the POCUS Special Interest Group called Sonography in Critical Care and Anesthesia. She has organized numerous Regional anesthesia and POCUS conferences in the Philippines since 2009. She is the Program Director of the pioneering activity, which is the ESRA recognized, EDRA accredited cadaver workshop.
